Shifting to critical thinking about facts.

Logic (Middle) School

Seventh and Eighth Grade

In seventh to eighth grade years, students shift into being able to critically think about the world around them. They grow in their analysis, reasoning and application of critical thinking abilities. At SGCA, we creatively incorporate these new abilities into our coursework so they can affectively communicate in a logical, virtuous manner.

Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics and more

This science course will ignite their imaginations and inspire them to search for God’s truth, beauty, and goodness through a scientific lens. They will be conducting experiments each week in the areas of Science. Additionally, they will be conducting a science fair project and have the opportunity to present their findings in class and/ or at one of our Learning Celebrations

Writing and Rhetoric

Writing expresses and communicates our perception of God’s world and all of its complexities. This course continues students’ study of reading comprehension, critical thinking, analysis, annotation, and essay writing. Using our course workbooks, students will explore various forms of biographical and nonfiction writing from American history. Additionally, they will engage in activities and discussions to reinforce the skills of reading fluency, annotation, research, and comparative and persuasive essay composition.

Latin

Our goal is to understand how the language of Latin works by not only memorizing the grammar and vocabulary of Latin, but applying it through translation of Latin texts. There will also be a focus on Ancient History through our translations, and developing eyes to see Latin in our own English language. We will interact and “play” with the language in such a way that results in mastery of the content, as well as a deep enjoyment of how beautiful and orderly the Latin language is. Latin is a great way to master English Grammar.

English Grammar

English grammar is the foundation for high school studies of Latin, Logic, Literature, Debate, and History. This class is intended to improve student’s grammar skills to ensure their future high school success.

Humanities: Literature, Writing and History

This humanities course strategically combines the study of literature with writing and corresponding history in one course. Students will explore history by engaging in activities and discussions while emphasizing a Biblical worldview.
